Hello, my name is Mette Heileskov Bülow and I’m Vice President of Transport & Logistics Excellence here at Vestas. Some things are easy to deliver. Others present rather more of a challenge. Given the sheer size of our turbines and towers, how do we ship them from the factory gate to the most remote locations, both onshore and offshore? And how do we make sure they arrive at the site location in perfect condition . . . without any damage? As with so many aspects of Vestas, the answer is ‘partnership’. The power of us. In this case, long term partnerships with specialised transportation companies. Apart from avoiding delays in delivery, there are other challenges that need to be addressed. For example, dealing with regulatory authorities, and the management of permitting and consent issues. In making sure that our turbines arrive at their destination on time and undamaged, we are meticulous about details. In many ways, we see delivery as an extension of our production line. So, we have controls in place. Just as we do in production. We identify all ‘Critical to Quality’ processes and measurements. Just as we do in production. And, just as we do in production, we continuously seek to make improvements. Because we’re relentlessly committed to wind, all Vestas components are designed and manufactured to the exactingly highest standards. This means they are of a robust construction that can withstand the harshest conditions on any site, both offshore and onshore. But like all high technology engineering, they need careful handling in transit. So, our transportation partners have customised vehicles trucks, vessels, railcars and equipment, which we have helped them to develop. Plus, people with the specialist skills to guarantee everything goes smoothly. Everything is well taken care of. Logistics.
